skip to main content home who's who dates & events listen buy our cd's photos videos sponsors contact welcome to the oggymen! who are the oggymen? we are a group of friends from falmouth, on cornwall's south coast, and we delight in singing traditional cornish songs in three part harmony. our story the cornish have a proud tradition of expressing their loves, beliefs, hopes and fears through music. songs chart the history of cornwall's methodist past, the hardships of life as a tin miner, the peril of those at sea, or the lament of the cousin jack, longing for family and familiarity whilst working a long way from home. these songs are part of our culture; a bridge to both the past and the future. as we grew up in falmouth we heard these songs regularly. fathers sung them in male voice choirs, friends sung them after working boat races, brothers sung them gig rowing, and we all tried to sing them down the pub... in recent years, the songs of our fathers have been heard less, and collectively we lamented the loss of this bridge to our cornish past. in 2010 we formed the aberfal oggymen with one purpose in mind: to sing cornish songs in three part harmony, and to sing them in our community so they would never be forgotten. apart from dropping the aberfal from our name, [people kept thinking we were welsh], nothing has changed since then. our supporters we are enormously grateful for the support we have received within our community over the last few years as we have strived to become harmonious. in particular we would like to thank our principal sponsor 'skinners brewery'. in addition we would like to acknowledge the support we have received from our local pubs: the seven stars, and the front, and we are also indebted to the church of king charles the martyr and weir media/cornwall web design. finally, we would like to thank harry 'safari' glasson who wrote many of the songs we perform, and whose lyrics sum up how we feel about this beautiful duchy. all right reserved | 2012 | oggymen | login
