please book early for the room of your choice, or a longer stay - september booking up fast and october already a few nights sold. b ookings have already started for 2019 travel to an island far , far away............ go back in time, .. no hustle and bustle, turn off the phone, breathe ....... and relax situated on one of the least known hebridean islands, two harbours guest house offers newly renovated, coastal b&b accommodation . we are located between the north and south harbours on the pretty isle of scalpay, harris, in the outer hebrides. there is a superb bistro on the doorstep . the current property stands on the historic campbell house-site where bonnie prince charlie took refuge in april 1746 awaiting his escape to france. the property is renovated to a high standard and we offer all rooms en-suite with mains pressure showers and white fluffy towels . we have an extra large dedicated twin room, with sofa, with harbour view and dual aspect , a large double room with a superking bed and superking pillows - this room has an extra large bathroom and large shower - the room has views of north harbour and the harris hills, and a very slightly smaller standard room, with a superking double bed and ensuite bathroom, this room has views over the village and garden. breakfast is served in a dining room showcasing the trix mural - choose from a full cooked-to-order breakfast of locally made pork sausages and stornoway black pudding, a lighter option of scrambled egg and smoked salmon, and oh-so-slowly made scott's porridge, fresh fruit salad prepared daily, ground coffee and fairtrade tea (plus all the usual suspects) discounts are only available if booked directly and all stays are a minimum of 2 nights (unless only 1 night is available) and based on 2 people sharing (no family rooms, no single supplement, no children 14 or under, no pets) 2018 season ( 30th april - mid oct) - 4 nights or more 10% discount both scalpay and the isle of harris are an ideal location for walking, cycling, driving, golf, fishing, bird watching, archaeology and geology. the island itself has been historically significant since the 1600s due to its association with the macleods of dunvegan , and then the arrival of bonnie prince charlie in 1746 extending its notoriety. in 1789 the first light (house) was built/commissioned in the outer hebrides, on the southern tip of scalpay. robert stevenson's design replaced the original tower in 1824. there is now a good walking path to the lighthouse and some additional parking. the isle of harris distillery in tarbert - now open and due to increased numbers of visitors to the islands, pre-booking a tour is essential. there is now a new pontoon in the harbour at both scalpay and tarbert - i do not have very much information on this but i believe that not only are some of the st kilda cruises trying to leave from there, but that will also be an option to have boat trips that are closer to home (shiant islands, coastline, scarp, taransay and around the south of scalpay island past the eilean glas lighthouse. there are some lovely walks from the guest house - and the possibility of seeing otters and seals at certain locations. to the south of the island dolphin and whales have been seen plus sea eagles and this summer we watched dolphins feeding close to the scalpay bridge. we have a lovely large garden, with a magnificent stone wall over looking north harbour. as we are situate between the two harbours we are an ideal location for sea kayaking as you don't have far to take the kayak. we have had some excellent tripadvisor reviews and we would like to thank everyone for taking the time to do this. it has to be noted that for some reason tripadvisor does not and will not list two harbours guest house on the "isle of harris", but only lists it on "scalpay", or "lewis and harris" - which makes no sense........ so apologies if it took a while to find us. we currently only take uk£ cash, cheques or bank transfer (uk only) please note : 2 important things to remember - for summer travel make sure you have booked your ferry well in advance, and due to the amount of last minute phone calls, eg 9:30pm - don't leave booking your accommodation on the island till you get here - you will be sleeping in the car! there are a finite number of bed spaces on the island - in peak season the island is full , and it is getting busier as there are now fewer b&bs. there are also more motorhomes on the ferry, making less available for car spaces - book ferries early sundays on the islands are slightly challenging for b&b tourists as no grocery shops are open and only an odd eating establishment here and there. we are able to offer packed lunches (for any day of the week not just sundays), which can be ordered the night before they are required. (we will provide a "breakfast box" for guests leaving on an early ferry). guests that are st kilda bound require a packed lunch anyway and we provide this free of charge as your "normal" breakfast is very very early, and as we don't want to disturb the other guests the breakfast bar is at your disposal with milk, cereal, yoghurt etc., guests would have to leave the guest house by 6:45am to get to leverburgh for the boat to st kilda. please can you let us know if you are going to st kilda . check in is between 4:30pm and 6:30pm unless you are on the late ferry. please can you let us know. we have a facebook page - please click on the small icon below. site powered by weebly. managed by justhost
