(my emphasis) this method is used in subsequent passages throughout the course where concepts are presented and developed over and over so that sooner or later we will “get it.” this is very evident in text chapter 27, the healing of the dream. there jesus takes us through 12 demanding paragraphs describing the fears, difficulties, and terror of our ego centered dreams. it is an excellent example of the course persuading us that we are responsible for the world we project from our split mind. then a soothing series paragraphs (13 – 16), gives us ways to hear god’s voice. following are brief excerpts from those paragraphs. 13 sentence four. so fearful is the dream, so seeming real, he could not waken to reality without the sweat of terror and a scream of mortal fear, unless a gentler dream preceded his awaking, and allowed his calmer mind to welcome, not to fear, the voice that calls with love to waken him; a gentler dream, in which his suffering was healed and where his brother was his friend. (my emphasis) 14 sentence three. rest in the holy spirit, and allow his gentle dreams to take the place of those you dreamed in terror and in fear of death. 15 sentence one. dream softly of your sinless brother, who unites with you in holy innocence. 16 sentences one and four. brother, he gives but life. … and let no pain disturb your dream of deep appreciation for his gifts to you. chapter 28 the undoiong of fear carries on this teaching. part ii, reversing effect and cause, reiterate previous course passages which teach: only heaven exists, in the separation we dream, how miracles function, and ─ we can choose. these fundamentals of acim are succinctly brought together in this paragraph four. nothing at all has happened but that you have put yourself to sleep, and dreamed a dream in which you were an alien to yourself, and but a part of someone else’s dream. the miracle does not awaken you, but merely shows you who the dreamer is. it teaches you there is a choice of dreams while you are still asleep, depending on the purpose of your dreaming. do you wish for dreams of healing, or for dreams of death? a dream is like a memory in that it pictures what you wanted shown to you. singing ─ “merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream,” could cause us to think that our dream is merry. it is nothing of the sort. admit that it is not, and that here in our dualistic separation we are torn by the push and pull between the ego and god’s voice. nevertheless, help is available. contemplate the above passages. listen only to god’s voice (the holy spirit). pray using jesus’ new lord’s prayer. forgive us our illusions, father, and help us to accept our true relationship with you, in which there are no illusions, and where none can ever enter. our holiness is yours. 3what can there be in us that needs forgiveness when yours is perfect? the sleep of forgetfulness is only the unwillingness to remember your forgiveness and your love. let us not wander into temptation, for the temptation of the son of god is not your will. and let us receive only what you have given, and accept but this into the minds which you created and which you love. amen posted in uncategorized | leave a reply lesson 109. i rest in god. posted on september 23, 2018 by wade reply this contemplative lesson gives us ways to focus our mind on resting in god. the lesson’s means for that (literation’s and metaphors), help us to ignore thoughts about our current world, and listen instead to the voice for god in our mind, the holy spirit to guide us to rest in god. we ask for rest today, and quietness unshaken by the world’s appearances. we ask for peace and stillness, in the midst of all the turmoil born of clashing dreams. we ask for safety and for happiness, although we seem to look on danger and on sorrow. and we have the thought that will answer our asking with what we request. “i rest in god.” this thought will bring to you the rest and quiet, peace and stillness, and the safety and the happiness you seek. “i rest in god.” this thought has power to wake the sleeping truth in you, whose vision sees beyond appearances to that same truth in everyone and everything there is. here is the end of suffering for all the world, and everyone who ever came and yet will come to linger for a while. here is the thought in which the son of god is born again, to recognize himself. “i rest in god.” completely undismayed, this thought will carry you through storms and strife, past misery and pain, past loss and death, and onward to the certainty of god. there is no suffering it cannot heal. there is no problem that it cannot solve. and no appearance but will turn to truth before the eyes of you who rest in god. this is the day of peace. you rest in god, and while the world is torn by winds of hate your rest remains completely undisturbed. yours is the rest of truth. appearances cannot intrude on you. you call to all to join you in your rest, and they will hear and come to you because you rest in god. they will not hear another voice than yours because you gave your voice to god, and now you rest in him and let him speak through you. in him you have no cares and no concerns, no burdens, no anxiety, no pain, no fear of future and no past regrets. in timelessness you rest, while time goes by without its touch upon you, for your rest can never change in any way at all. you rest today. and as you close your eyes, sink into stillness. let these periods of rest and respite reassure your mind that all its frantic fantasies were but the dreams of fever that has passed away. let it be still and thankfully accept its healing. no more fearful dreams will come, now that you rest in god. take time today to slip away from dreams and into peace. each hour that you take your rest today, a tired mind is suddenly made glad, a bird with broken wings begins to sing, a stream long dry begins to flow again.
