find us on facebook! welcome what we do our activities photos work with us apply for funding como solicitar fondos volunteering fundraising contact us facebook donate now send us a message contact us make a donation donate bisee books is now registered with virgin money giving find out more contact us having an event? buy your bisee books cards here find out more bisee books cards twitter bisee books is now on twitter becci logie indira swann sarah howard emily sadler lizzie pincock helping disadvantaged children through reading the launch of bisee books - april 2009 bisee books aims to inspire a love of reading in disadvantaged children from across the world. many of these children live in extreme poverty. they work with their parents after school, or may not go to school at all. they cannot imagine a future different to that of their parents. the only way out of poverty for them is education, and if bisee books can inspire some of them through reading, we can really make a difference to their futures. bisee books was established in memory of sarah howard 26, indira swann, 18, emily sadler, 19, elizabeth pincock, 19, and rebecca logie, 19, who were travelling in ecuador when their coach struck a lorry loaded with sand on the 12th april 2008. the name takes the first letter of each girl’s first name – becci, indira, sarah, emily and elizabeth. bisee books was officially launched in april 2009, with a visit to ecuador by the families of the five girls one year on from the accident. five schools had their own library created in the girls’ names. with thanks to the tremendous support of family, friends and other people moved by the cause, funds were initially used to purchase the bisee book bus in 2010. the bisee book bus was decorated with artwork by sir quentin blake, stocked with books, materials and volunteers, and travelled throughout communities in ecuador, working directly with those children most in need of our help. in 2016, the bisee book bus had to be sold and a new smaller vehicle is currently being sought. meanwhile the activity of bisee books in ecuador has continued using other vehicles and by establishing permanent libraries. bisee books has worked in ecuador in partnership with girandula (the ecuadorian association of childrens books), and the british school in quito. the literacy project in ecuador is a cornerstone of the memorial to the five girls who died, and the survivors, of the 12th april 2008 coach crash. bisee books is now looking for opportunities to help disadvantaged children from other regions of the world by linking up with suitable local partners. bisee books is a registered charity with the charities commission (registered charity number 1151664).
